Glossary [X]

X. 400X400 is a transmission protocol that is independent of the Internet. The importance is rather small today, but still important in the area of EDIFACT. Some trading partners require this protocol exclusively.
The protocol allows the encrypted transmission of EDI data. You can think of it as an e-mail system. Deutsche Telekom offers the mail program "Fileworks", which can be used to send and receive X400 messages. Since "Fileworks" also has a script interface, it can be easily integrated into other software products such as the EULANDA EDI interface.
The data is finally tunnelled via the normal Internet to the telecom gateway and from there forwarded via the Deutsche Telekom's X400 network.
To be able to use fileworks, you need an X400 mailbox at Deutsche Telekom - it's called "business mail".
